South Park Music Tour - June 26-29
The South Park Music Tour will be visiting the towns of Alma and Fairplay June 26-29th. The tour features a slew of independent musicians from all over the country and world whose genres include country, reggae, rap, blues, rock, and everything in between. The event has been dubbed the “highest music event in the world”-at roughly two miles high. The event kicks off Thursday with a VIP party and then a music industry conference on Friday. Saturday and Sunday visitors can enjoy music all day as well as vendors of a street festival. www.southparkmusictour.com
Fourth of July in Como and Fairplay, Colorado
The Como Civic Association will hold its Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration which will include; games, food, a parade, community yard sales, sales booths, a community supper, and fireworks. Fairplay will also be hosting a Fourth of July celebration for the second year in a row.
Como Mountain Man Rendezvous – August 21-24
On Aug. 21-24, the Como Mountain Man Rendezvous will be held near Hartsel on Colorado Highway 9. Events and activities at the event are to include a black powder shoot, the knife and tomahawk throw, and the primitive bow shoot. Visitors can also spend their hard earned gold at trader’s row.
Burro Days-July 26-27th
This Park County tradition will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2008 in Fairplay. This event will feature its trademark Old West fun which includes cowboy church, a kiddie dog race, a barn dance and barbeque, a shootout, live music, and a pancake breakfast. Saturday will host the annual llama race and then Sunday will be the World Championship Pack Burro Race which is held to celebrate the role of the burro in mining days of old. www.burrodays.com
Boreas Pass Railroad Day-Aug. 16th
This year will be the 13th annual Boreas Pass Railroad Day for the South Park and Breckinridge area. This is a mostly self guided tour which takes you through 11 of the areas historical sites including the Como school and the rotary engine in Breckinridge. Each stop will have guides and some will even have special programs. Some of the highlights include a ride in a handcar and an all day pancake breakfast.
Tarryall Road
The Tarryall road runs 42 miles from Jefferson to U.S. 24 just north of Lake George. There are multiple trailheads from the Lost Creek Wilderness and there are also many Forest Service roads that provide access onto public land. These trails provide miles and miles to hike or mountain bike.
